It All Began When They Said “No.”

I am an empty-nest mother of two who was looking for my next chapter in life and wound up in the query trenches, hearing “no” every single day.

That is until an agent plucked me from her slush pile and gave me my one yes. Thanks to her and to an amazing editor who shared our love for this story, Broken Bayou came to life.

And now it’s available for you to read, listen to, or reserve at your library.

“The story’s opening provided a great hook that draws the listener in and does not release its grip until the end. It is one of those audiobooks that you want to listen to while on a long trip.”

Frequently Asked Question

I’m not sure exactly when I knew. I just sort of morphed into one!

I have always been a reader, though. That’s probably where my love for writing started, with my love for reading. I was the kid who loved the summer reading list. I started playing around with writing in college, mostly short stories and poems. I loved my poetry classes. That’s where I learned rhythm, cadence, and that every word counts.

Then, in my late twenties, I found my love for writing novels.

I signed up for continuing education classes on creative writing and went on to write three novels. Those books fall into the “practice makes perfect” pile. Broken Bayou is my fourth book.

In addition to reading and taking classes, I was influenced by family. I was raised by storytellers. This is not uncommon in a southern household. The stories I heard as a child ranged from poignant stories about the Smoky Mountains told by my grandmother to scary ghost stories told by my father.

I think it’s those stories that taught me the most and, to this day, inspire me to turn caffeine into words!

Even though I married a mountain man, the beach is my happy place. Top of the list is Cabo San Lucas. One day I have to set a book there!

I learned as an adult and never looked back. Tennis has provided me with lots of laughs, competition (I like to win at practice), and the best team ever: One Hit Wonders.
